The short version

We collect only what we need to run our programmes, answer your questions and get paid. We do not sell your personal data. Our advertising pixel runs only if you accept it. You can ask to see, correct or delete your data at any time by emailing hello@digitalbizlab.net.

Who we are

Digital Biz Lab ("Digital Biz Lab", "we", "us" or "our") is a business name registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria (BN 9873146), based in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria. We provide digital business education, including live cohorts, masterclasses, community programmes and corporate training.

This policy explains what personal data we collect through digitalbizlab.net, WhatsApp, Zoom and our programmes, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (the "NDPA") and other Nigerian law. For the personal data described in this policy, we are the data controller.

What personal data we collect

Enquiries and messages

When you complete the corporate training enquiry form, we collect your name, organisation, email address, phone or WhatsApp number, the training you are interested in, the approximate number of participants, your preferred timeframe and any message you write. When you message us on WhatsApp or by email, we receive your number or email address, your profile name and the content of your messages.

Enrolment and payment

When you buy a place on a programme, payment is handled by Selar. We receive the details Selar shares with sellers, such as your name, email address, phone number, the product you bought, the amount paid and the payment status. We do not receive or store your card number, bank login details or PIN.

Programme delivery

To run a programme we use your name and email address to give you access to live sessions, and we may record attendance. If you join a WhatsApp group, we can see your display name, phone number and the messages you post there. If you share assignments or work with us, we receive that work. We also keep a record of certificates issued, including the name that appears on the certificate and your completion status. Anyone who holds a valid certificate ID can use our verification page (digitalbizlab.net/verify) to see the name on the certificate, the programme, the dates and the issue date. The list of names is stored in encrypted form, so it cannot be browsed without a certificate ID.

Live sessions may be recorded. If you speak, switch on your camera or type in the chat, your voice, image, name and messages may appear in a recording that we share with participants for replay.

Website and device data

Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically records technical data when you visit, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you request and the time of your visit. We use this to keep the site running and secure.

Advertising and analytics data (only with your consent)

If you click Accept on our cookie banner, we load the TikTok Pixel and the Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Pixel, which collect information such as the pages you view, your IP address and device or browser identifiers. We use them to measure how our TikTok and Meta advertising performs. See the cookies section below.

Your cookie choice

We store your cookie choice (accepted or declined) in your browser so we do not keep asking you.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal data such as health information, religious belief, political opinion or biometric data. Please do not include it in messages, forms or assignments.

Why we use your data and our lawful basis

The NDPA requires us to have a lawful basis for each way we use personal data. This table sets out ours.

Cookies, the TikTok and Meta Pixels and similar technologies

When you first visit our home page, we show a cookie banner. Here is what happens under each choice.

  • Necessary storage. We save your banner choice in your browser's local storage. This is needed to respect your choice and does not track you.
  • TikTok Pixel (optional). This loads only if you click Accept. Once it is loaded, it measures visits to our pages and records when you click our Selar ticket link or our WhatsApp buttons, so we can see how our ads perform. If you click Decline, or ignore the banner, it does not load and no data is sent to TikTok from our site.
  • TikTok Pixel on our Selar page. Our programme tickets are sold through Selar, and we have added our TikTok Pixel to our Selar store. On that page the pixel runs whether or not you clicked Accept on our website, because the banner on our website does not control Selar's pages. It records product page views, add to cart, checkout and purchase events, so we can measure how our ads perform. If you do not want this, you can block trackers in your browser or choose not to open our Selar page.
  • Meta Pixel (optional). This loads only if you click Accept, alongside the TikTok Pixel. It measures visits to our pages and records when you click our Selar ticket link or our WhatsApp buttons, so we can see how our Facebook and Instagram ads perform. If you click Decline, or ignore the banner, it does not load and no data is sent to Meta from our site.

Our fonts are hosted on our own site, so visiting our pages does not send your data to a font provider.

You can change your mind at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of our home page. You can also clear your browser storage or adjust your browser settings. If you accepted and later decline, we stop the pixels from loading on your future visits.

Links to third party services such as Selar, WhatsApp and Zoom take you to their services, which may set their own cookies under their own policies.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell personal data. We share it only as needed with:

  • Service providers that process data for us. These include Selar (payments and ticketing), Zoom (live sessions), Netlify (website hosting and enquiry form handling), WhatsApp (messaging and community groups), and email and productivity tools we use to run the business. If you accept the cookie banner, this also includes TikTok.
  • Trainers and guest facilitators who help deliver a session and may see participant names and questions.
  • Your employer or sponsor, if your place is arranged or paid for by your organisation under a corporate training arrangement. We may confirm attendance and completion to them.
  • Professional advisers and authorities, such as accountants, lawyers, regulators, courts or law enforcement, where the law requires it or where we need to protect our legal rights.
  • A future owner of the business, if Digital Biz Lab is restructured or sold, subject to the same protections described here.

Other participants in a programme will see your name and messages in shared Zoom sessions and WhatsApp groups. Please think about what you share there.

Transfers outside Nigeria

Some of our providers, including Zoom, Netlify, WhatsApp and TikTok, store or process data on servers outside Nigeria. When your data leaves Nigeria, we make sure it is protected to a standard the NDPA accepts, for example through the provider's contractual safeguards or the data protection laws of the destination country. Where the law allows transfers with your consent, we will ask for it.

How long we keep your data

We keep personal data only for as long as we need it for the purposes above.

  • Enquiries that do not lead to a booking: up to 24 months after our last contact.
  • Enrolment, payment and transaction records: while we deliver and support your programme, and afterwards for as long as Nigerian tax, accounting and other laws require.
  • Certificate records: for as long as we need to confirm a certificate we issued.
  • Session recordings: up to 12 months after the programme ends, unless we tell you otherwise.
  • Marketing contact details: until you unsubscribe or ask us to stop.
  • WhatsApp groups: programme support groups run for the support period stated for the programme, after which we may archive or close them. You can leave any group at any time.
  • Website logs: for the period our hosting provider keeps them.

When we no longer need personal data, we delete or anonymise it.

Security and data breaches

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data, including limiting access to people who need it and using reputable providers. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

If a personal data breach is likely to put your rights and freedoms at risk, we will notify the Nigeria Data Protection Commission within 72 hours of becoming aware of it, as the law requires. Where the breach is likely to result in a high risk to you, we will tell you promptly.

Your rights

Under the NDPA, you have the right to:

  • be informed about how we use your data (this policy does that);
  • access the personal data we hold about you and receive a copy;
  • have inaccurate or out of date data corrected;
  • ask us to delete your data where we no longer need it or have no lawful basis to keep it;
  • ask us to restrict how we use your data in certain situations;
  • object to our use of your data, including for direct marketing;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting what we did before you withdrew;
  • receive your data in a commonly used format and ask us to pass it to another provider, where that right applies; and
  • not be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing that significantly affects you.

To use any of these rights, email hello@digitalbizlab.net with the subject "Data request" and tell us what you would like us to do. We may need to confirm your identity first. We aim to respond within one month, and we do not normally charge a fee. Some rights have limits, for example where we must keep records to comply with the law, and if we cannot act on a request we will explain why.

Children

Our programmes and website are intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has given us personal data without the consent of a parent or guardian, contact us and we will delete it.

Marketing messages

We may send you information about cohorts, resources and offers by email or WhatsApp where you have consented, or where you have joined a programme and we are entitled to contact you about similar services. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and on WhatsApp you can tell us to stop and we will. Opting out of marketing does not stop service messages about a programme you have joined.

Links to other sites

Our website links to services we do not control, including Selar, WhatsApp and Zoom. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their policies before sharing personal data with them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page with a new "last updated" date. If we make a significant change to how we use your data, we will tell you through the website or by email.
